Springtime in the Monastery

Here are some updates from the last few weeks here in our Carmel.  We hope all of you have had a beautiful Spring and Easter Season!

  • The day after Divine Mercy Sunday was the Solemnity of the Annunciation.

  • “Be it done unto me according to your Word.”  Our Lady of Solitude in the cloister garden.

  • Spring brought prolonged cool weather this year, so the garden had to wait to receive its seedlings until later in May.

  • When May finally arrived it brought with it our two candidates Lynne and Maria Joseph who are discerning a vocation to Carmel!

  • We welcomed each of them with notes and cards.

  • Say “Hi”, Maria Joseph …

  • … and Lynne.

  • Happy Ascension to everyone!!

Since we started putting bird seed and suet packs outside we have had so many new birds visiting our monastery. It is so exciting to see a new bird, like Woodpeckers, Nuthatches, Cowbirds and the Arkansas state bird the Mockingbird.

Take a look at the show put on by this charmer Mockingbird trying win over the female:

There were also some baby Morning Doves in our preau (courtyard) happily making themselves at home, except for new weather experiences like rain and wind:

That’s it for now. More coming soon!

Have a happy and holy solemnity of Pentecost, as we all pray, “Come, Holy Spirit!”
