With summertime comes the Carmelite Order’s principal patronal feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on July 16th, which means our annual public Novena of Masses is just around the corner (July 8th – 16th)! Our homilist for this year will be one of our Discalced Carmelite friars of the Oklahoma Province. Rev. Bonaventure Sauer, OCD is a long-time friend of our community, former provincial superior and former delegate to the nuns of our province. We hope you will come to hear his reflections–the fruit of living the charism of Carmel with our Blessed Mother.
A special feature of this Novena is the participation of local parishes from the Little Rock area. Each night a different parish or group of parishes participate with their own choir and ministers of the altar. If possible their parish priest(s) will be the main celebrant of the mass. It is a delight to be able to attend the whole nine evenings and experience a good portion of Little Rock’s wonderful Catholic community–each with its own “flavor”. It is a real treat for the nuns to have the parishes come to us, since we, as cloistered nuns, do not go out to them! Thank you, dear Catholic faithful of Little Rock!
(Speaking of “rock” … happy feast of Sts. Peter and Paul! Our Sr. Mary Petra of the Cross had her feastday today. It’s not too late to offer a prayer for her!)
